Kalam Islami

the critical analysis of Wahhabi’s cognitive foundations with emphasis on methods and opinions of Ayatollah Sobhani

Abstract
The epistemic foundations of Wahhabism are based on the narrative fundamentals and negation of the rational rules.  Salafi Wahhabi as the most radical extreme fideists, apart  from the rejection of the reason as an independent source of knowledge in addition to the Quran and Sunnah, has some reflections on the ability of the reason to understand religion and its instrumental application. They reject the role of reason as an instrument and an interpreter and commentator of the Quran and Sunnah. On the basis of this view, the validity of the Quran and Sunnah, the negation of  esoteric exegesis of the similar verses and the validity of the understanding of companions are considered as the methods of knowledge.
This article uses the method of  Ayatollah Sobhani for critical analysis of Wahhabi’s cognitive foundations. He, as a rationalist theologian in Kalam discussions, has played a distinguished role in dealing with Wahhabism and criticized their epistemic foundations. In addition to using rational methods, he has also benefited from the foundations that are accepted by his opponents such as inspired transmission
