One of the discussed topics regarding prophethood is the extent of the knowledge of divine prophets about the realities of the world of creation and the unseen world – in addition to religious knowledge and laws. This issue has been examined through reason and revelation. The verse concerning the teaching of names to Adam (peace be upon him) is among the Qur’anic evidence for examining this topic. Regarding the meaning of the names taught to Adam (peace be upon him) as God’s caliph on Earth, different opinions have been presented by interpreters; such as: the names of all creatures, the names of some creatures, the names of God’s specific proofs, the attributes and properties of things, knowledge of all things, the names of God, the realities of the world of جبروت (jabarut – a term referring to the divine realm), names and properties of things, names, entities, properties of things, and principles of human-made products. Considering linguistic rules and reliable narrations, the correct view is the teaching of the names of God’s specific proofs and the realities of the world. In this research, using the method of ijtihadi interpretation, the opinions of interpreters have been cited and examined, and the chosen view has been explained.
